Educator Licensing Pedagogical Modules SY27
Time limit: 365 days
Instructor: Malia Hite
Full course description
The Educator Licensing Pedagogical Modules (formerly known as the AEL Modules) are designed by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) to introduce alternative-pathway educators to essential pedagogical standards and practices. This foundational training prepares candidates who have content knowledge (via a bachelor's degree or CTE expertise) but have not yet completed a formal university educator preparation program.
Completion of these four Canvas modules is a mandatory prerequisite to satisfy the baseline pedagogical requirements needed to secure an Associate Educator License or an initial LEA-Specific license, allowing candidates to legally teach in Utah classrooms while working toward professional licensure.
Main Goals of the Course
Establish Core Teaching Competency: To ground incoming teachers in foundational pedagogical practices, state standards, and effective classroom management before they step into a classroom.
Ensure Regulatory & Ethical Compliance: To familiarize candidates with Utah legal frameworks, educator ethics, and professional boundaries required of public education personnel.
Support Alternate Pathways: To provide accessible, equitable, and structured professional development that successfully bridges the gap between industry/content knowledge and actual teaching practice.
A Certificate of Completion will be issued. Upon finishing all modules and passing all knowledge checks, you will complete a form and a downloadable Certificate of Completion will be emailed to you. Educators and paraeducators will need to download this certificate and submit it with their license application.
