All Local Education Agencies (LEA) who will be offering mental health screening shall require one or more relevant staff who will be administering a mental health screener to attend an annual mental health screener training provided by the Superintendent in collaboration with Office of Substance Use and Mental Health (OSUMH). This course meets the requirement of the training as defined in Board Rule R277-625. Links to an external site.
This course offers a comprehensive overview of school-based mental health screening, encompassing definitions, conditions, and parental consent. It delves into screening tools, processes, and referral pathways, with a particular focus on designing effective screening programs. It addresses triaging and important components of suicide risk assessment and safety plans. Additionally, the course outlines data collection and reporting requirements and provides information on the mental health screening grant and reimbursement. Successfully complete all module's and 5 competency quiz with a 100% score.
