This self-paced course will focus on effective practices for incorporating Self-Determination and Self-Advocacy throughout the grade bands in all content areas for students with disabilities.
The concepts covered in this course include:
Igniting Post School Success through Self-Determination and Self-Advocacy; Predictors of Post-School Success, Overview; Predictors of Post-School Success, Overview; Student Self-Monitoring; Functional Communication; Age-Appropriate Transition Assessments; Student Discussions; Leadership; Student Choice; Student Collaboration; Individualized Education Program (IEP)
The primary learning intentions of this course will include the gaining of knowledge and understanding of the impact of self-determination and self-advocacy on post school outcomes for students with disabilities to incorporate the following:
self-determination/self-advocacy as a predictors of post school success.
strategies to incorporate into instruction for students on self-monitoring.
instructional strategies in functional communication.
postsecondary transition assessments to incorporate with students.
strategies to facilitate student-led discussions.
instructional strategies on self-determination and self-advocacy.
strategies to incorporate with students in developing leadership skills.
strategies to provide opportunities for student choice.
how to create opportunities for student collaboration.
instructional strategies to involve students in their IEP meetings.
