Building Effective Canvas Course | Utah State Board of Education
Self-paced
Instructor: Lora Miller
Full course description
Building Effective Canvas Courses" is a comprehensive, self-paced training designed to bridge the gap between having great ideas and building great courses. For many subject matter experts, the challenge isn't the content—it's the delivery. How do you take complex state standards, policies, or resources and present them in a way that is clear, engaging, and easy to navigate?
While the USBE Template Library provides you with the professional "shell," this course provides you with the instructional strategy to fill it effectively. We move beyond the technical "how-to" of clicking buttons in Canvas to explore the why of effective online teaching.
The Philosophy: Plan Offline to Build Online One of the core tenets of this course is that the best courses are built before you ever log into Canvas. You will learn how to use the USBE Course Design Workbook to map out your learning path, "chunk" your content, and refine your objectives offline. This ensures that when you finally open the template, you are ready to assemble rather than guess.
Who Should Enroll? This training is essential for all USBE employees involved in creating professional learning, compliance training, or resource repositories. Whether you are a seasoned Canvas user or a complete beginner, these strategies will elevate the quality of your work.
Certificate of Completion Upon finishing the 10 modules, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for their professional development records.
